FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. I’m not in shape or have limitations, can I still CrossFit?
A. YES!! CrossFit is scalable to any fitness level.  After your baseline assessment and consultation, we will start you with the necessary modifications to each movement to make your CrossFit experience challenging, yet comfortable and attainable.   We often hear potential members ask if they need to get in “shape” before they come to CrossFit- the answer is NO.  We can accommodate any fitness level or experience. That is a feature of our program.

Q. What are the benefits I can see with CrossFit?
A. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program with an emphasis on functional fitness. The areas that you should see improvement with regular CrossFit exercise are:  Cardiovascular Endurance, Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy.

Q. I consider myself a very fit/athletic person- how can CrossFit take me further?

A .
A CrossFit WOD (Workout of the Day) does not specialize in a particular area, but provides a full-body workout. Even if you can do the prescribed workout, there is always the clock to motivate you so you do not have the “plateau” effect. The competitive athletes and optimally fit members that have joined our gym have improved their performances when adding CrossFit to their training program.

Q. I’ve been CrossFitting at home, how would I benefit from coming to Indy CrossFit?

A.   First, we offer the experience and coaching of our trainers.  In addition to CrossFit training, many of them have been competitive athletes and understand the work that is needed to take your fitness to the next level.  They explain the technique and benefits of each movement, not only to reduce your chance of injury, but to optimize your muscle development, range of motion and calories burned. We have top quality equipment, including Concept 2 Rowers, Dynamax balls and Hi-Temp bumper plates- which may be too costly for personal use in a home setting.
Second, our community.  We think we have the best CrossFitters in Central Indiana!  Not only do they work hard and constantly strive to improve their workouts, but they support and motivate other members.  There is truly a feeling of concern and interest from everyone, from owners/trainers to members when you come to Indy CrossFit.
Finally, just that little human element called competition.  Though unspoken, it’s only natural that when you are CrossFitting next to others on the same workout,  that competition kicks in.  For many, that extra little push to catch up or bypass someone drives them to work harder then they would on their own. However, in the end, your fellow CrossFitters will be encouraging you to finish strong and be right there with you.

Q. I’m very busy and have a hard time getting to a gym-how is Indy CrossFit different?
A.CrossFit is a fitness and conditioning program used by firefighters, police departments, military personal, athletes and everyday people with very busy schedules. Workouts are quick, but intense and designed to optimize functional fitness so most of our workouts are no more than 10-15 minutes long. With warm up you can expect to be at Indy CrossFit about 30 minutes, which is a lot more convenient than what most other workouts take. We have beginners next to elite athletes and advanced CrossFitters all in the same class so that we can all support and be motivated by each other.

Q.  Why go to Indy CrossFit when there is a franchise gym down the street for less money?

A. Indy CrossFit membership has tiered memberships to fit your needs and short term contracts. We are the original CrossFit affiliate here in Central Indiana, opening in January 2007,  and we offer a considerably affordable CrossFit membership compared to other area affiliates, many which  charge $150+ a month. Some of these locations operate out of a home garage gym, but Indy CrossFit has always had a dedicated fitness facility.  It’s not uncommon that many CrossFit gyms across the nation charge over $200.00 a month.

However, the difference is that you have the resources of a CrossFit trainer coaching you through each workout, up to 6  days a week.  Other gyms and private trainers offer personal training from $65 and up for just one hour.  So for the approximate price of one hour of personal training  elsewhere, you get a month of CrossFit sessions (about 26 a month avg).  Though you might get the basic access to a gym for a lower cost, if you use any of their other services or consult with a personal trainer, you pay much more for it. Not to mention our members see RESULTS, many of our members went to franchise gyms or even personal trainers before Indy CrossFit and never had the results they’ve achieved with us.
